Mancham at 4th Baku Forum - "Towards a Multipolar World"

SEYCHELLES' founding President Sir James R. Mancham was warmly welcomed on his arrival in Baku, Azerbaijan, last night (Tuesday 8th March), to participate at the 4th Global Baku Forum titled, "Towards a Multipolar World", hosted by the Nizami Ganjavi International Centre.

On the 10th and 11th March 2016, international leading figures in global politics will convene in game changing event in Baku to debate the real current trends in international relations and human security. The meeting will provide a space for 100+ current and former Presidents, Prime Ministers, Ministers and leading scholars, experts to asses the current state of the world.Baku Forum (2015)

Baku is the capital and the largest city of the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as the largest city on the Caspian Sea and of the Caucasus region. It is a large scientific, cultural and industrial centre.

Under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, Azerbaijan has prospered and is today reputed to be one of the more successful and wealthy nations in the world.

The Nizami Ganjavi International Center is named after Nizami Ganjavi who in the history of Azerbaijan was known as a great poet, scholar and philosopher. The center is one dedicated for Learning, Tolerance, Dialogue and Understanding.

This evening (Wednesday 9th March), the Seychelles' founding President has been invited to attend the "Seven Beauties" Ballet at the Azerbaijan's State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre hosted in honour of the 875th anniversary celebration of Nizami Ganjavi before attending a welcome dinner.

The opening session, "The Global Challenge Today", will take place tomorrow (Thursday 10th) at the Four Seasons Hotel in Baku. Among those listed to speak are - H.E. Ilham Aliyev - President of the Republic of Azerbaijan; H.E. Rosen Plevneliev - President of the Republic of Bulgaria; H.E. Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani - Emir of Qatar (TBC) and Vaira Vike-Freiberga - President of Latvia (1999-2007), who is Co-Chair of the Nizami Ganjavi International Centre.

There will also be two video messages - one from the Honourable Justin Trudeau - Prime Minister of Canada and H.E. Sergio Mattarella - President of Italty. A message from the Honourable David Cameron - Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of the Great Britain and Northern Ireland will be presented by H.E. Irfan Siddiq, Her Majesty's Ambassador to the Republic of Azerbaijan.

It is to be recall that Sir James's first visited Azerbaijan six years ago when as a member of CAPDI (Centrist Asia Pacific Democrats International), he formed part of an observer mission for the Azerbaijan's Presidential Election which saw President Ilham Aliyev renewing his mandate with wide popular support.

In a statement issued this morning, Sir James said that the issues before the Forum were all of contemporaneous interest and needed urgent consideration, attention and action. Among the subject to be discussed were -

(a) Global insecurity and security: ISIS and terrorism: conflicts, Syria; Ukraine; (b) Regional dynamics and challenges: Iran, Caspian, Syria and the wider Europe; (c) Economic vitality and inequality, decline of the West and consequences serious global economic hardships; (d) Climate change and energy policy: What role for oil producing countries; (e) Multicultural, interfaith dialogue and integration in a connected world.
