During the visit, the Chief of Staff had the opportunity to learn about the mission and say farewell to the crew of the frigate.

The PSARA is scheduled to set sail Thursday, February 13, 2014 to become part of the European Union Naval Force, which has been tasked in the broader maritime area of Somalia to fight piracy. In "Operation Atalanta", which is the first EU naval operation under the European Security and Defence Policy, the Hellenic Navy has participated regularly with staff and media since its entry in 2008 (assuming Command and of the Force and involved in Headquarters management) up to 2012, however, until now only staff at EU Headquarters in the UK and Commander onboard Flagships have taken place.
