Seychelles Minister Alain St.Ange meets with press at Embassy in Abu Dhabi

Seychelles Minister Alain St.Ange meets with press at Embassy in Abu Dhabi(Forimmediaterelease.net) - As the World Routes aviation forum 2012 in Abu Dhabi closed its doors, Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister for Tourism and Culture, paid a visit on Mr. Dick Esparon, the Seychelles Ambassador to Abu Dhabi, accompanied by the CEO of the Tourism Board, Elsia Grandcourt; Senior Marketing Executive Amy Michel; Tourism Consultant Glynn Burridge; and Financial Controller Jean Francois Adeline.

During the course of his visit, the Seychelles Minister met with members of the Abu Dhabi press and answered questions about the orientation of Seychelles’ tourism in the region, visitor arrival figures, and future policies. In answer to questions about the modern scourge of piracy affecting Seychelles EEZ, Minister St.Ange said that it was time to speak of the phenomenon using new language and leave behind the misleading phrase “piracy,” which no longer actively describes Somali activity in the region.

“Seychelles took a leadership role in this saga even though we are the smallest island nation of the region. Seychelles was realistic that this is a problem for the Community of Nations and not only a Seychelles problem. Seychelles rightfully took the matter head on and has been able, with the help of navies from the committed countries, to restore a degree of order in the region. We all know that piracy has certain traditional romantic connotations, which no longer accurately reflect the true nature of these brigands’ activities. We are not so much dealing with pirates as with armed gangs operating out of Somalia, and that is a very different matter,” corrected the Minister, “The Seychelles coast guard must be congratulated on standing bravely in the front line of this battle, supported by our friends and foreign allies, and we can be extremely proud of the excellent work they have done and are doing.”
