Safety At Sea Awards - 2012 Winners Announced

Original article: Safety At Sea

The 6th annual Safety at Sea Awards took place on 14 June and was hailed a success by industry figures. The evening celebrated the role that safety managers and manufacturers play in saving and protecting life at sea across the international maritime market.

HMS Belfast - SAS

A record breaking number of entries were received this year from around the globe and shortlists of three for each of the five categories were agreed.

Our guest of honour for the evening Capt Ian McNaught, Deputy Master of Trinity House presented certificates to all shortlisted entrants and trophies to the winners.

Nick Blackmore, managing editor of Safety at Sea magazine, said "It’s great to be able to reward these organisations for their efforts – these innovative products make a huge difference to the safety and welfare of seafarers."

Appearing amongst those entries, in the Security category, this year, was OCEANUSLive. A close run thing, but the prize went to Campbell Shipping for their video perspective showing a vessel's preparations for entering the high risk area off Somalia.

OCEANUSLive was shortlisted and received a certificate from Captain Ian McNaught (right). Although not a winner on this occasion, OCEANUSLive, endeavours to highlight the crucial importance of information and collaboration in enhancing security and safety at sea.

Co-founder of OCEANUSLive, Glen Forbes, accepted the shortlist certificate on behalf of the OCEANUSLive team.

The awards demonstrate that safety is being seen for what it is: an essential factor in any shipping company's success, not an extra cost and burden on profitability, said the Guest of Honour, Captain Ian McNaught, Deputy master of Trinity House. In the centenary of the Titanic disaster, these achievements are especially pertinent.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the judges for recognising our contribution, and for all the kind words from those at the ceremony, those championing our work via social network channels, and the OCEANUSLive users for all the support.
