High Risk Areas Piracy Incident Maps - April 2012

OCEANUSLive provides situational mapping of pirate activity throughout the month of April 2012.

Piracy and robbery at sea incidents throughout April 2012 shows a decrease in hijacks by Somali pirates as naval operations, greater implementationof BMP and use of armed security guards instils greater security presence. Three hijacks - one not confirmed - occurred in the Horn of Africa/Indian Ocean HRA, whilst the risk of more violent piracy off the coast of West Africa although generally increased, the amount of attacks were actually lower than in March. A similar result is seen in Southeast Asia.

April 2012 saw 28 incidents occur. One incident in South America is not shown. Details are:

17 Apr - Nedlloyd Marita; Liberia Container Ship - Guayaquil Inner Anchorage, Ecuador.
