Breaking news from Somalia Report.com

Security Forces of the Regional Autonomy of Puntland, nabbed a group of suspected pirates during their land-based, anti-piracy operations in the northeast region of Somalia in the afternoon, Monday, March 14.

Reports stated that four pirates were travelling on the road between the port town of Bosaaso and the Beyla District when the security forces received information and caught up with the suspects. Abas Ali who, a security official in Puntland, told Somalia Report that the pirates were en-route to Hul-canod Village to support other pirates holding the Danish hostages. Other reports claim the hostages have been moved to a pirate ship.

Forces also seized their Land-Cruiser, pistols and other weapons. The security official also said the 4 pirates will join the hundred prisoners, already held in the central jail of Bosaaso, tomorrow.

Witnesses told Somalia Report that the arrest came after the Puntland Security Forces began patrolling against the movement of the pirates in the coastal area of the Bari region earlier this week.

It is also a success for the Security Forces after their failed attempt to rescue the Danish hostages last week.

Somalia Report stated how this serves as an excellent example of the land-based solution to piracy mentioned in their linked article.
