MV Dover reported hijacked in the Arabian Sea only 10nm off Oman coast

On February 28 at 0606 UTC, a bulk cargo carrier, MV Dover, was boarded by pirates in position 1848N 05825E in the north Arabian Sean, approximately 10nm East of Madrakah, or 260nm Northeast of Salalah, Oman. The Panama-flagged, Greek-owned vessel was on transit from Port Quasim in Pakistan to Saleef in Yemen when the attack occurred. The attack occurred approximately 125nm Southwest of an unsuccessful attack carried out on February 27, in which the MV managed to evade capture. The Pirate Action Group continues to operate in the area.

The MV Dover 23-crew consists of 3 Romanians, 1 Russian and 19 Filipinos. No further communication has been possible with the vessel and the status of vessel and crew is not known at present.
The vessel had registered its movement with MSC(HOA) and had been reporting to UKMTO. EUNAVFOR continues to monitor the situation.

Vessels are reminded that the coalition forces'
warships may not be in the vicinity of a pirate attack, subsequently, it is emphasised that seafarers can greatly reduce their chances of being pirated if they follow precautions as recommended in the Best Management Practices, increasing speed and carrying out evasive manoeuvres is a proven deterrent to piracy attacks.

Vessels are advised to exercise extreme caution when navigating in the vicinity of the reported position of the hijack and maintain maximum CPA with any ship acting suspiciously. Additionally, registration of vessel movement with MSC(HOA)prior to transiting the region is recommended.
