This Wednesday, June 30, the III Meeting of the Interinstitutional Committee of the Sea (CIM) was held. At the meeting, the presence of foreign fishing vessels in areas bordering the jurisdictional waters of Ecuador was discussed.

"The CIM is the ideal space to evaluate the actions deployed on a national and international scale regarding this situation and monitor the location in which foreign fishing vessels are currently located, in order to provide a multidimensional and inter-institutional response," they said in a press release from the presidency.

It was also added that: “This collegiate body of the Executive Branch is responsible for the approval, articulation, coordination and evaluation of the intersectoral public policy of the sea. The Committee is made up of the Ministries of Foreign Relations and Human Mobility -which presides over it-; National defense; Environment, Water and Ecological Transition; Transportation and Public Works; of Production, Foreign Trade, Investments and Fishing; the Technical Secretariat for Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, and the National Planning Secretariat”.

The General Secretariat of Communication also detailed: In this session of the CIM, the actions of the Committee of the Outer Limit of the Ecuadorian Continental Shelf (CLEPCE) were also analyzed in relation to future presentations to the United Nations on the extension of maritime territory in the areas from the underwater ranges of Carnegie, Coco and Colón. On the other hand, it was known about the recently approved Organic Law on Navigation, Safety Management and Maritime and River Protection in Aquatic Spaces”.

Finally, it was reported that for this Thursday from 10 in the morning a discussion of the Committee with the media is planned, in order to answer any doubts regarding this issue of high national interest. The event will take place at the facilities of the Joint Command of the Armed Forces, in front of the Recoleta Park.
