EUCAP Nestor activities in the Seychelles began in September 2012. Today the Western Indian Ocean Archipelago is considered a role model within the region for Maritime Security Capability. EUCAP Nestor’s engagement in the Seychelles contributed to this success story.

Over the last three years the Mission has worked with the Seychelles Chief Justice Administration, the Attorney General’s Office, Seychelles Police, the Seychelles Coast Guard and the Seychelles Air Force.

EUCAP Nestor’s mentoring contributed in confidence building, knowledge and improvement of skills of each of the named agencies.

“The SPDF, mainly the Coast Guard and the Air Force, have benefited immensely through the assistance provided by the EUCAP Nestor, and for this we are forever grateful”, said Brigadier Leopold Payet, Chief of the Seychelles Defense Forces in a speech during the named closing ceremony.

In January 2016 the Seychelles officially takes over the chairmanship of the Contact Group on Piracy off the Coast of Somalia, and in April 2015 took over the chair of the East African Africa Defense Security Policy Structure. These activities demonstrate progress and determination at the political level where the mission’s involvement has contributed to promoting the agenda of maritime security in the region.
