Rethinking The Oceans - Towards the Blue Economy
SEYCHELLES is marking World Ocean Day by the launching of a new book entitled RETHINKING THE OCEANS – Towards the Blue Economy by President James Alix Michel who was last week confirmed by the Supreme Court of Seychelles to have been the legally-elected President of the Republic for another 5 years.
This evening (Wednesday 8th June), President Michel is hosting a book launching ceremony at State House. Recalling his address to the 70th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, September 2015, when he proclaimed – “We are the sentinels of nature and the guardians of our oceans.”
Seychelles’ founding President Sir James R. Mancham, KBE, has endorsed Michel’s book with the following statement – “President Michel has been at the forefront of the Blue Economy concept since the subject started making headline news, and this book therefore should be read by anyone seriously interested in the future of the oceans.”
Sir James happens to be an active supporter of the World Ocean Council as well as an Ambassador-at-Large of the Ocean Exchange which is based in Savannah, Georgia, USA.
The guest of honour at the State House’s ceremony this evening will be Mr Gordon L. Anderson, PhD., Chief Executive of Paragon House, St. Paul, Minneapolis, USA, whose company has published Michel’s book. Mr Anderson is also the Editor-in-Chief of International Journal on World Peace.
SEYCHELLES NATION this morning (Wednesday 8th June) also published a special message from Seychelles Minister of Finance, Trade and the Blue Economy, Jean-Paul Adam, stressing the role of oceans in our planet’s future – “Our oceans are not just for one generation, it concerns us all – our parents, grandparents and our children of today and tomorrow,” the Minister stated.
It is to be noted that in 2013 President Michel received the Sustainable Development Leadership Award at the Delhi Sustainable Development Summit, and in 2016 he was invited to become a Patron of the World Sustainable Forum.
