Peacemaking versus Peacekeeping
OVER THE last 10 years, Sir James R. Mancham, founding President of the Republic of Seychelles, has been making it his mission to advocate that more money be spent on peace-making (education and human resources development) as opposed to peace-keeping (defense budgets, military equipment and acquisition of nuclear capacity) – as a road to a more balanced and better world order.
This morning (Saturday 28 March) Sir James received the above photo from Mr Phil Keeler of Florida who was the first Manager of the Pan-American-based US Airforce Tracking Station operations in the Seychelles in the mid-60s during the “Cold War.” The photo carries the following caption – “Could this really be true? It looks as though President Obama is preparing to mount your photo in his office.”
No doubt, Sir James’s peace-making efforts are gathering international impact and more and more momentum at this troublesome time in world history.
